Al Faw Grand Port

Overall project context

A major port development involving breakwaters, marine structures, channel and basin dredging, reclamation and container-yard works.

Jacob’s role and contribution

Jacob progressed from Assistant Resident Engineer to Resident Engineer and Senior Resident Engineer. His work included construction and survey inspection coordination; dredging and disposal-progress verification; correspondence and meetings; programme, quantity and production reporting; document control; FIDIC Yellow Book administration support; and payment evaluation.

He monitored soil-improvement work with the Geotechnical Engineer, including prefabricated vertical drains and material preloading. Operational dredgers included CSD Tian Shan, CSD Tian Bai and TSHD Tong Xu; Jacob’s role was supervisory and verification-based, not vessel operation.

Evidence represented in the photographs: survey vessels, breakwater armour, contract activity, dredger mobilisation, disposal management, drone survey, reclamation, container-yard development and PVD soil improvement.

Upper Zakum Artificial Islands

Overall project context

Offshore artificial-island works incorporating reclamation, marine access, quaywall blocks, breakwater protection and supporting survey systems.

Jacob’s role and contribution

As Chief Surveyor, Jacob managed personnel and coordinated offshore hydrographic and topographic survey activity, including multibeam procedures, RTK base-station correction and survey-controller configuration. He provided guidance information for survey, utility and support vessels and construction plant.

Using PDS2000, Trimble systems and AutoCAD, he supported dredging cut and discharge plans, reclamation rock works, clamshell dredging, excavator surveys, vibro-compaction locations, quaywall-block and X-block placement, and daily progress and volume information across the four islands.

Overall project context

Jacob's contemporary 2013 career record documents work on both Diyar Al Muharraq and Durrat Al Bahrain during his overall Great Lakes assignment. The available evidence does not establish a reliable separate date range for each project, so no project-by-project dates are claimed.

Jacob’s role and contribution

As Assistant Project Engineer, Jacob carried out daily dredge production and progress reporting across the two assignments. His documented work included dual-frequency hydrographic surveys; CSD ladder, density-gauge and velocity-gauge calibration; bathymetric mapping; borrow-area depletion and completion-volume reporting; survey-data quality control; and coordination of land and hydrographic survey teams.

He created production-monitoring graph packages for five CSDs and reported actual dredger performance against expected production to head office. CSD Carolina and CSD Texas are individually identified in later supplied material; the evidence does not name the other dredgers, so no additional vessel names are claimed.
